First of all, you should be aware that when you resize an image, no matter how you do it, you're going to lose image quality. There's no way around it. Why? Find out here.
Still, you do need your images to be "emailable" size and to look professional and behave the way they should in email.
For basic resizing and rotating, check for image apps on your computer - these are usually found in the ACCESSORIES folder in a Windows environment. Click here to view Mac instructions for basic image editing.
Special image editing software is usually required if you intend to edit your image beyond basic resizing or rotating. The great news is that there are lots of programs that offer free versions of their image editing software - with fewer bells and whistles than the paid versions, no doubt. But still. Free is free.
Here's a great resource we found that reviews various image editing apps. Keep in mind your final image should be in .jpg, .gif or .png format.
